Lena was born in Scotland of Scottish parents, but spent her life in Lancashire. She was not famous - she was typical of the hardworking, solid women who manned the factories and brought up families on very little money, yet neither was she ordinary. Lena lived through two world wars, four Preston Guilds and endured many personal tragedies. Her story, hilarious at times, poignant at others, will rekindle many memories for those whose mothers lived through the same times – times that were hard, but which brought about a cohesion in the community so many of us miss today. The story touches on Lena’s experiences as an old lady requiring hospital treatment and the reader will be delighted to read how Lena kept a sense of her self worth and wit right up until the end of her long life.
