As a young girl, Etta's parents are brutally murdered in their home in Philadelphia and the killers were looking for her. She changed her name and ran away to Saint Louis and then to Denver where she took a job as a live in housekeeper for a family that sexually abused her. In a delerious state after complications from an abortion, she divulged things about her past that could reveal her location to the killers. She changed her name again and traveled to Fort Worth where she became a prostitute in a bordello frequented by the outlaw, Butch Cassidy. They became lovers and Butch introduced Etta to his bisexual partner, The Sundance Kid. She left Butch for Sundance and she eventually married him. In an effort to escape persuing lawmen from the Pinkerton Detective Agency, the three of them moved to Argentina and bought a ranch where they all shared a small cabin with one bedroom.
