This is a fun book even though it isn’t one of Jules Verne’s better known stories. A "mad scientist" visits a sleepy town, Quiquendone, and, under the appearances of setting up gas lighting for the town, instead performs an experiment on the townspeople, turning them into frenetic lunatics.
