DOWNING STREET SPECIES The author survived his first close call with death on a Friday 13th 1992. Numerous life challenges followed over the next twenty years. As described in his amazing journal of life, love, destiny and mystery (Strong Spirit, Weak Heart) William went on to engage with “species political” at all levels. His life mission was to try to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He chose politics as the vehicle to help deliver this aim. Sadly many politicians sought only to make a difference in their own lives. He was to meet three men who became Prime Ministers and many high profile politicians, including invitations to no’s 10 and 11 Downing Street and the European Parliament. He would later dance with Chinese politicians and sing unchained melody at a Chinese university. He was invited to present to political powerbrokers on how to mobilise their 360,000 party members to win the UK Election. The election was won and he was later invited to become an MP. He declined because of concerns described in this book. The book is not intended for political academics or those content with establishment structures of alleged democracy. His democratic blueprint he believes, if implemented could restore people’s faith in UK democracy. The blueprint challenges those who put party political aims before the just needs of people. Many complain about politics but few offer practical solutions to restore people’s faith in MPs. The UK promotes democracy around the world but fails to address the challenges in its own political habitat. The book of insight presents a journal, a journey amongst the political species from New Labour to Coalition Government. It builds on real experiences to present democratic renewal from a citizen perspective rather than political expediency. UK citizens seek leadership, honesty, integrity and accountability from all the political species but this has been lacking. The book proposes citizen led solutions to restore UK democracy and Parliament to a world class benchmark. William had a poor childhood by Liverpool’s dockland in a house infested by species cockroach. On leaving school and failing crucial exams he was advised to start a career as a barrel maker. He didn’t take that advice, eventually becoming an advisor to major UK companies, politicians, businesses, healthcare, hospices and charities across the UK. Cherie Blair was to write in her book ‘to Bill my email friend’. She received constructive proposals on political policy as well as criticisms he made about Blair’s Government. On Iraq, Darfur, MP standards and economic policy the Prime Minister was not for turning. The author’s foresight years before events manifested (eg Iraq and MP expenses) was uncanny as the book reveals. William considered many book titles before choosing the title Downing Street Species. A name decided a year before the first rodent, a rat was filmed running across the doorstep of 10 Downing Street in early 2011. This rodent was followed shortly by mice infestation.
