Amelia Earhart disappeared near the Equator on the penultimate leg of an around the world flight. The date was July 2, 1937. My e-book examines numerous theories of what happened to her Lockheed Electra Model 10E during its journey from Lae, New Guinea to Howland Island in the South Pacific Ocean. Each theory involves the island of Saipan in the northern Marshall Islands group. It was here that Earhart's plane was seen by an eyewitness, Josephine Blanco Akiyama. 11 years of age, Akiyama was a Saipan native who witnessed the aircraft's crash during her lunch hour on her island, which was occupied by the Japanese military. Akiyama is still alive today, having immigrated to California in 1956.
