Many history accounts of the life and times of David Crockett skip over his weeks roaming about what became Northeast Texas. He left home in late November 1835, and by December was in the far reaches of what then was Miller County, Territory of Arkansas. The area was inhabited by some of Crockett's former friends, relatives and at least one fellow Congressmen, Samuel Carson. Crockett came with only three men: his wife's kinfolks William Patton, Abner Burgin and Lindsey Tinkle. Others rode along at times, the group eventually studying lands near the headwaters of the Trinity River. Crockett was particularly impressed with what became Honey Grove. He went south into the interior of Texas with possible expectations to come back and settle there. This short book studies the Crokett route and time he spent in the Red River Valley region.
