This book analyses the formation, evolution and transformations of the Chinese culture. It indicates two characteristics during the early development of Chinese culture. The first characteristic is to understand the mystery of harmonious with nature (tian ren he yi) through the destiny concept, and another is to establish the social organizations based on the genetic relationship. The author also examines the difficulties faced by the Chinese intellectuals when discussing the modern culture changes. Examples include the ‘distance between ideal and reality’, ‘tradition against modern’.
