The smashing conclusion of the four sets of stories involving Adel Miller. In the first story, "Community," Adel tragically and unexpectedly moves into a new phase of her life, but her community of friends coalesces around her to keep her alive and functioning. In "Invitation Accepted," the author visits Adel for a second and last time to learn new things about her life. Then we jump back in time to the first election of Woodrow Wilson and meet Louise, Adel's mother, as a young, troubled girl in a story called "A Quiet Hamlet." Finally, in "Coda," we jump back to the present (1960) to see Adel through the eyes of her former high school boyfriend, Daniel Greist (the hero or villain of "Daniel Greist, A Friend" which appeared in the collection "Adel's Journal and Other Stories").
