Kristin Bradford, who after carefully planning out her future sees it all slipping away. She is pregnant at the age of nineteen and the father is already married and has two young daughters with his wife. Chris McLaughlin hired Kristin to babysit over three years ago and she became such an integral part of his family. This merging with the McLaughlin’s was not by menacing intent on Kristin’s part. She simply enjoyed being with them and making them happy. The first part of each chapter is the present; Kristin finding out she’s pregnant and how she deals with the situation. She knows she has to tell Chris he’s the father of the baby she’s carrying but she can’t bear the thought of destroying his family. She also has to decide if she is going to keep the baby or not. The end of each chapter explains how she came to be in the situation. Babysitting started it all then she assumed the housekeeping duties of the McLaughlin household. By the end of Kristin’s high school years she could easily fill in for the mother, or the wife. Kristin Bradford is the only character of whom the reader knows the thoughts and feelings. I have omitted all views or comments, except those in conversation, from all characters except Kristin’s. I've done this so the reader is focused on the struggles of the circumstances. I wrote this book for young mothers to understand that having a baby at a young age does not have to be the end of the world and she doesn't have to be alone. Life is what you make it. It’s also for the mothers of pregnant teens. A girl getting pregnant isn't necessarily a sinister plot to make her mother look like a failure.
