A disgraced metro newspaper reporter takes over the editorship of a tiny weekly in a remote village on the Colorado River. Too bored, lazy and demoralized to fill the twelve broadsheet pages every week he persuades the locals to furnish copy for free, resulting in columns such as Bunker Mentality (survivalist tips) and Ask a Lesbian (relationship advice). Waitress of the Week he does himself. His arrival coincides with the Chuckwalla Days Parade, emceed by Mad Mike and Nice Mindy of low wattage WZZS the Rattler. The Blythe High Sophomore Girls, in an electrified cage, is always a crowd pleaser. The paper's owner warns the new editor to avoid news, and instead concentrate on grandmothers completing a life of service. But news seeps in, the editor's tenure is short, thus making this a comic novella.
