Blue Suede News #54 has long been out of print, but now is available for the Kindle! Our cover story is on Americana/Roots artist Dave Alvin, who won a Grammy Award that year (Spring 2001). This is the first of our 68 page issues to become available to the Kindle, and it also features Barry & The Remains, who opened for the Beatles on their last tour of the USA. Our contributor Rick Meek was in British band the Sabres, who played Hamburg in the era immediately following the Beatles, and who chronicled those times in his own career - which he later expanded into a book. We have a story on Doo-Woppers The Elegants, one on Country Rocker Commander Cody, andother story is about Female Country/Rockabilly artist Charline Arthur, and her friend Helen Hall, who composed the song "Hello Baby" which Charline recorded, and also Bob Luman recorded. We have a long piece on drummer Matt Lucas, who was with Narvel Felts, but when his rockin' version of Hank Snow's "Movin' On" hit, he became the frontman for the band. Early Sun Records artist Malcom Yelvington is covered, and we have a photo section on the New Orleans Jazzfest by later 'Keepin' The Blues Alive' winner Jef Jaisun. This is now available in a reprint, but of course the Kindle version is much more economical.
