Growing up during the difficult years of the 1940s was a group of children, flippantly referred to as ‘The Blossoms of Bloomo’. Bloomsgrove Street was their home and friendship their anchor. The sudden death of Maureen Sylvia, the most flamboyant ‘Blossom’, proved to be the catalyst that revived a thousand memories. ‘The Blossoms of Bloomo’ provided a welcome support network for one bewildered child, who yearned to uncover a hidden family secret. Life on the backstreets of Nottingham was tough. Together these children trod a rocky pathway that ambled from early childhood towards maturity. During their journey, Maureen, an outspoken determined character, led the way. Planning escapades that caused ripples of laughter, followed by adult disapproval and conflict. As the Blossoms grew older, developing hormones combined with an incessant interest in foreign strangers led to a fraught situation, causing severe repercussions. The world has changed so much since ‘The Blossoms of Bloomo’ experienced their childhood. This book looks at their difficult, emotional journey and includes several photographs.
