Dan McAndrew is a young school-teacher whose first posting is to Boulia, where, coincidentally, his uncle, Ted Hanrahan, had lived until he disappeared some years earlier. An aboriginal reveals to Dan the mysterious circumstances surrounding that disappearance, and as more and more of his uncle’s past unfolds, Dan becomes convinced that, not only was Ted Hanrahan murdered, but that the killer is stalking him too.A novel set in North West Queensland in the 1950’s – a time when the living conditions in isolated communities could only be described as harsh, and when the people who lived there, either by choice or in search of obscurity, all reflected the ruggedness of their environment.
