California's traffic jams were already among the worst in the nation. When Ernie Blisko starts selling the fifty million dollar Blisko Rover California's highways become deathtraps. With no regard for other drivers, owners of the indestructible Rovers crush any vehicle that gets in their way. Dan Mangene is trying to get home at the end of a long day when he has a close call with a Rover. An hour later he isn't so lucky when a Rover lands on his car while he's stuck in traffic. Dan miraculously survives thanks to help from what he believes is an angel. Little does Dan know that the 'angel' that saved him is the only hope Earth has of stopping Ernie Blisko and the Rovers. Excerpt Dan’s car suddenly shook as though someone had kicked it. It felt like a mild tremor. A few seconds later the Leviathan shook again. In the mirror he could see a Rover leaping from one spot to the next as it made its way toward the overcrowded bridge. Cars were being crushed with each landing and it was quickly getting closer. Another hop brought the Rover frighteningly close and it looked like Dan might be sitting in the next landing zone. Dan opened his door just as a van skidded between Dan’s Leviathan and the car to his left. The van jammed itself against the Leviathan, pushing Dan’s door shut. The driver was an elderly woman and she was waving her arms around and screaming hysterically. She hopped out of her car, continuing to wave and scream as she ran around between the cars stuck on the bridge. The Rover was about to jump again. Dan panicked. He would have to get out on the passenger side. He scrambled in his seat, trying to get his long legs out from under the steering wheel. The Rover left the ground and disappeared from view. Dan cried out as he threw himself across the passenger seat. Lying flat on his back he had just managed to unlatch the passenger door when the inside of the Leviathan suddenly filled with suffocating blue smoke. An angel with long white hair poked his head through the smoke. The angel had milky white skin, large black eyes, and a small nose and mouth. Dan couldn’t breath and started choking violently. While the angel was a riveting sight Dan had no time to waste. The shadow of the Rover darkened his car. He pushed the passenger door open and kicked wildly but it was too late. He wasn’t going to make it. He’s come to take me to heaven Dan thought, passing out as the roof buckled above him.
