Black Wind (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

Cursed by a history of violence from Vietnam, to the Denver Police Department and finally to a small, quirky Colorado Mountain town where he was a reporter for a weekly newspaper, violence, which ironically, damaged mostly those around him, concluding with his daughter's kidnapping and a bloody rescue, Aaron Hemingway became a recluse to protect those he cared about. He supported himself by taking low-end investigation and process serving for a shady Black Foot indian lawyer named Pete Magpie. After three years of that, he was ready to eat his gun. Then an old friend called an offered him a temporary job as a deputy marshal to fill in for other deputies while they investigated the murder of a back-country four-wheeler who was decapitated by piano wire stretched between two trees across a trail.Surprisingly, thing were going well, including his handling of a couple of situations that were ripe for disaster. Then, in an unprovoked but not random assault by three men in paramilitary outfits, his dog was killed, his lady friend left in a coma with a gunshot wound to the head. Not surprisingly, Aaron was knocked unconscious but not seriously hurt. His investigation began pointing to former professor at the university nearby who may have helped develop Iraq's biological weapons and was suspected as a rapist. As the evidence piled up, Aaron swears revenge and follows the suspect to the Malpais lava fields near the Zuni Pueblo in western New Mexico where he plans to lay the curse to rest, for better or worse.
