"I first realized that my poems had universal appeal when I did a reading at a 1984 conference of the Michigan Women's Studies Association at Michigan State University. ""To My Mother"" brought convulsive sobbing from one woman, and ""Liberated Woman"" elicited thanks from serveral coeds who harbored similar views. Later, I broadened my feminist perspective and wrote ""Night Song"" for a distraught husband whose wife had deserted him. The poems are about experiences and emotions that are common to us all. I hope that reading them will encourage you to take a closer look at your own life and its purpose. "
