Like many of his friends, Crombie Cordiner was called up for military service in World War II at the age of 18. He left the rural tranquillity of his childhood home in Stirlingbrae, Aberdeenshire in early 1943 for the horror of the battlefield. Crombie served with the 9th Battalion Royal Tank Regiment in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. In "A Tale of Five Lads" Crombie recalls his best pals from childhood and what happened to them and their families during the war. Crombie gives a full account of his early childhood and wartime experiences in One Life to Live, also available on Kindle. Other wartime memories by the same author available on Kindle include "The Last Act" and "Memories of a Nobody".
