From Edna’s childhood wearing a flour sack dress while living in a leaky barn to breaking ground in a small mid-west city, outdoor education and the ministry, this story chronicles a determined Canadian prairie pioneer through defining 20th century world events. Edna’s grandfather, a baron, fled to England when Bismark started annexing land to create Germany. Her father fought in the Boer War, became one of Baden-Powell’s original scouts, sang at the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Mary, and later fled to Canada to avoid the law. Her mother narrowly missed her passage on the ill-fated Titanic voyage. The story begins with Edna’s birth to these well-bred parents without a penny to their name.
