The book tells the story of a child who becomes of age during World War II and the occupation that followed. This child is one of most Greeks at the time who lived through the tormenting tribulations of poverty, insecurity and betrayal. He forms part of a generation who entered adulthood at the time of the fierce civil war and the ensuing loss of life that took place.
