Bridget Murphy is a young widow with two young daughters. She lives in Ireland with her in-laws but is not allowed communication with her parents. Her deceased husband's gambling debts leave her destitute and her in-laws ask her to leave, too much shame has descended upon the family. She returns home but her father is dying and with no male heir, his property will be inherited by a male cousin. With no home of her own, and with her sisters' married in Montana, she decides that she will take a chance and head to Montana with them to be a mail order bride for rancher, Trent Baxter. Trent's mother was a widow with two sons and he remembers her loneliness and sadness. She marries again and Cliff becomes a father to Trent and his brother. He sees the love that blossomed between Cliff and his mother and he is willing to marry a widow, to be a good husband and father to her and her children. But he wants a family of his own. Will Bridget's fear of loving again stand in her way of love with Trent? If she marries, can she give herself fully to a man who wants a child of his own or will the pain of losing her son make it impossible for her to go through with the marriage? Will Trent's love of Bridget be stronger than his need to have a child of his own?
