1946-47 Post War Diary Flight Sergeant Dennis Walter Wright 149 Squadron RAF Bomber Command (English Edition) [Kindle-editie]

This is the third of four diaries by Dennis Wright all of which will be published on Kindle in 2014. The start of 1946 sees Dennis still rather bored at RAF Methwold, with not much flying of his Lancaster "kite" as navigator until a posting to RAF Mildenhall in April 1946, though his friendship with a Miss Doris Ringer (his future wife) seems to blossom during the Spring. During June an entry states “The whole of today was spent on Operation Frontline flying in formation over Germany. Today a tragedy occurred when F/S “Taffy” Thomas was drowned at Lakenheath”. He and Doris decide to get engaged in early August, however the next couple of weeks have their ups and downs, before Dennis gets posted to RAF Wyton in late August. Some flying during September including a trip down to Tripoli (via St Mawgan), followed by a local flight on the 17th which resulted in running out of fuel and a forced landing at Waterbeach - a trip on his motorbike the next day to the crash site resulted in him crashing his bike on the way back! He is finally demobbed from the RAF in mid-December. The start of January 1947 sees Dennis get a temporary teaching job at Ardleigh Green School in Havering, and his engagement to Doris was finally sealed on January 22nd. There are several weeks of snow and his motor bike seems to be continually on the blink. The diary finishes abruptly on April 22nd 1947. The good news however is that they did go on to marry in September 1947, although there is no record of any children. Sadly Dennis passed away in March 1992 but there is no record found yet for Doris.
