A memoir of a 1995 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail from north to south that includes personal reminiscences of the author and other hikers, their feelings while on the trail and accounts of their personal triumphs on finishing. The book describes the profound changes than took place in hikers lives as a result of the long hike, of spectacular scenery, help from others along the way, injury, illness, weather changes, and an immense satisfaction for having accomplished what only 10% of the many beginning hikers are able to do.
