Karl-Heinz was born into a dysfunctional family where constant conflict, misbehaviour and abuse were rife, leading members of his family into understanding that such an arrangement was normal. His father Dieter was an alcoholic, con-artist and a gangster whilst his mother Sabiena, was a destructive narcissist who had been an uninvolved, abusive and negligent parent. Sabiena had treated Karl-Heinz with contempt, had criticized, bad-mouthed and passed judgement on him throughout his life. Karl-Heinz’s older brother Klaus was “The Mastermind” manipulator who capitalized on the other family members and suffered from an anti-social personality disorder. His sister, Katinka, had taken on the role of “The Good Child” who assumed the parental role. She suffered from anorexia as well as a social phobia disorder. Karl-Heinz, a highly sensitive individual, had been “The Problem Child and Scapegoat” who was blamed for most of his family’s problems in spite of being the only emotionally honest member within their unit.
