Anna Katharine Green was an American novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well-plotted and legally accurate stories. For this she is often called "the mother of the detective novel." The Leavenworth Case is her most famous book. The novel is set in New York and begins with murder of a retired merchant, Horatio Leavenworth, who is found dead his New York mansion.
