As Europe and America are whip-sawed by East Asia in the global economy, the universality of modern Western civilization is being questioned. Across Confucian East Asia in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, the hard earned dollar is saved and invested. Love of learning has facilitated climbing up the economic ladder and spawning a culture of techno-scientific research. Beyond its economic achievement, the making of global Singapore has shown that blending the strengths and values of both East and West yields an unusually efficient, disciplined and cohesive forward-looking society. Constructive post-modernism, seeking ways to improve on modernism in the West, has consonance with the world view and spirituality of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Rather than the continued pursuit of Western modernism, East Asia appears to be on path towards evolving a post-modern Asian civilization.
