Texas, June 1838 Sarah’s husband is killed in an ambush, leaving her and her four children with a struggling ranch and a pile of debt. She would be lucky if that was all she had to worry about though. Sarah is faced with not only losing her home, but also her children. She is determined to fight for what is hers for as long as she can hold on to it. She knows she might lose the ranch, but she will not chance losing her children. If she has to, she will run far away from the town of Wixom. Careful not to trust anyone, she attempts to fight her battles alone. However, one mistake leaves Sarah seriously injured, and when she awakes, she finds herself in a whole new situation. One she isn’t comfortable with, yet she has no choice but to accept it for the time being. Sarah is bedridden and has no other option other than to rely on the kindness of a Texas Ranger and his sister. With all the time Sarah spends stuck in her bed she finds the answer to her problems, but now that she is disabled, who would want to marry her? She has nothing to offer to a potential husband. And although she finds herself falling for the ranger, she believes he isn’t what she needs.
