This volume contains 2 novels, and 12 short stories, featuring Ronald Standish, a sportsman who played cricket for England and was a part-time consultant with the War Office. He is the second best known character created by Sapper, after Bulldog Drummond. In fact, Standish appears in three Bulldog Drummond novels. We have included Challenge, Drumond's tenth novel, not featured in some Drummond's collections. Book one is a short story (The Horror At Staveley Grange) which was part of the book “The Saving Clause and Other Stories”. It is the story that introduced the character Ronald Standish. A few years later he was featured in his first novel: Tiny Carteret (Book 2); and in the book “Ronald Standish”, a collection of 12 short stories (Book 3). The character also appeared in the final three Drummond novels, Knock-Out (1933), Bull-Dog Drummond at Bay (1935) and Challenge (1937). We have included as part of this collection Bulldog Drummond book #10, Challenge, as Book 4.
