This newly researched dictionary covers every 3-letter root word in Biblical / Classical Hebrew and, where possible, gives the origins of loan words from other languages found in the TANAKH (Hebrew Scriptures) such as Egyptian, Aramaic, Arabic, Babylonian, Greek, Phoenician, Persian, Sanskrit and Dravidian. This dictionary supersedes all previous classical Hebrew Dictionaries / Lexicons as it uses the most up-to-date discoveries and texts including the Dead Sea Scrolls and more obscure finds. Whilst it doesn't claim to be comprehensive, its more than 2,000 entries covers every known root. This Dictionary / Lexicon is produced without theological or sectarian bias but relates to how the writers of the texts themselves understood the words turns of phrase they used. This methodology is achieved by multiple sourcing and strict adherence to scientific linguistic principles; e.g. when dealing with a text produced in 1st Temple Period times, the word usage is always of 1st Temple Period, not later revisions or how native Hebrew users may have used the word / terms in other periods. It recognizes that Biblical Hebrew was a living, flowing language which did borrow from other cultures in a linguistic context, as do all living languages; e.g. many words associated with warfare are of Greek and/or Assyrian origin, many trade words are of Babylonian and/or Phoenician origin, words for various goods come from the multitude of peoples with whom the ancient Hebrews / Israelites traded; etc. Some words are given in English after the Hebrew for pronunciation, especially where different words have the same spelling, but meaning is determined by pronunciation. This Dictionary does not use a pointed text as that is a post-Biblical development and can and does often confuse the text as it relies upon a Masoretic (a Jewish sect 500-100 CE) interpretation of meaning.
