The author’s first poetry book, Patterns in Henna, was about life in India surrounded by her father’s family stories. This book speaks about her mother’s family and her own life now in Virginia at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, her “next incarnation.” Many poems celebrate the natural world and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Marguerite’s poems fall into five sections: things that are more than things; family, especially her mother’s New England one; other places and voices; the circle of the seasons; and a group of lyrical contemplative poems. Some jolt with an unexpected jab of humor or irony.
